Mould and product design
The cost of injection moulding involves more than the quantity of plastic used. Component shape, dimensions and mould construction also affect production preparation, including tooling, machine setup and trials.
Material and production volume
Material choice, component weight and order quantity are assessed together. The volume produced with a mould changes the share of tooling and preparation costs allocated to each component, so unit prices can vary by quantity.
Machine setup and trials
Before production, the mould is installed and the process is set up. Trial components are assessed and adjustments made. Production time, energy use and labour also contribute to the total cost.
What information helps with a quotation?
A drawing or sample, intended use, expected order quantity and any material preference help with assessment. A quotation is determined after the product and production requirements have been reviewed.
